 The Test

Two part test taken on a touch screen computer at the same venue  used by learner drivers for the theory test.  The first part of the test is a theory test consisting of 100 multiple choice questions. Each question has 4 possible answers, only 1 is correct. Candidates have 90 minutes to complete the ADI Theory Test. The 100 questions have been banded into four main areas:

  • Road Procedure
  • Traffic Signs and Signals, Car Control, Pedestrians, Mechanical Knowledge
  • Driving Test, Disabilities, Law
  • Publications, Instructional Techniques

The overall pass mark for the test is 85%.   To do so you must also get at least 20 out of 25 in each band. Therefore a  score of 25, 25, 25 and 19 would give you 94% but would not be a pass. Good preparation and study is the key to passing this test.

The Hazard Perception Test

The test is the same format taken by learner drivers. It consists of 14 video clips; the 14 clips will contain 15 developing hazards. As the potential hazard develops into one requiring you to change speed or direction, you will have a time window in which to react by clicking the mouse.  For each hazard you can score a maximum 5 points going down to zero. The highest possible score is 75 for the test. The pass mark for a trainee instructor taking this part is 57.

Note:

Both parts of the test must be passed at the same time.

It is recommended that you purchase the DSA Official Theory CDROM & Hazard Perception DVD  twin pack available from TSO.

This will assist you preparing for both parts of the Test.

We can supply a bank of questions which you can also study.
